Who is eligible to join the EOSO?

The Elmendorf OSO is open to all spouses of active duty and retired military officers of all branches of the service in the Anchorage and Eagle River areas.

Why should I join the EOSO?  I don't like tea and crumpets.

We're not your mother's OSO!  Gone are the days of sitting around the tea table in pillbox hats with pinkies up.  The new generation of OSO members are active and diverse in their abilities and interests.  Our organization boasts professionals and stay-at-home moms, who range in experience from newlyweds to retirees.  Just some of the activities enjoyed by our members include hunting, skiing, fishing, quilting, crafting, interior design, cooking, and motorcycling.  No matter what your vocation or hobby, you are sure to find new friends and support in the EOSO!

What kinds of activities and functions does the EOSO host?

We meet monthly from August to May for special luncheon or dinner programs that are often informative and always entertaining.  Past programs have included specials guests such as Iditarod racer DeeDee Jonrowe, a murder mystery, a spa night, and a joint function with the Fort Richardson Wives' Club.  Annual favorites include Crystal Bingo and the Christmas Wreath auction to benefit the BX Angel Tree.  For this years' exciting programs, see our Programs page on this web site!

In addition to our monthly programs, the EOSO hosts various special-interest groups.  In the past these have included quilting, recipe, and book clubs; mah jongg & bunco groups; and skiing, golf, and bowling leagues.  To see a list of current groups, see our Special Activities page on this web site.  And if you don't see a group that meets your particular needs, feel free to suggest one!

Are there dues?

Yes, the yearly dues are $48.00 and cover the operating costs of the OSO.  New members are welcome to join at any time during the event year.  Charges for monthly programs range from $9.00 to $18.00 and cover the cost of meals.

How do I join?

Download and complete our membership card.  Bring the card and your dues check to the next function, or mail it to the address given on the card.

Can I "try before I buy"?

Yes, the August Membership function is free to all eligible prospective members and is a great way to get a feel for the EOSO before joining.

Membership is required for participation in all other EOSO activities.  However, eligible prospective members may attend one event per year as a guest.  If you'd like to be a guest but don't know an EOSO member, contact our Membership Chairman to make arrangements.

No one understands the travails and the joys of the military family like another military spouse.  Whether you are a new military wife, settling in to a new assignment, or coping with a deployment, you are sure to find the support you need at the EOSO.  Join us and make lifelong friends and memories.  We look forward to meeting you soon!

A Message from
our President:

Welcome to Elmendorf Air Force Base and Anchorage, Alaska.!  What a unique opportunity you will have to explore and experience the many wonders of this great state. While you are in Alaska, the Elmendorf OSO is that familiar connection —-a great group of spouses who have much to share.  Our goals are to improve our base through education and charitable contributions, and to promote morale, goodwill, and fellowship among our members. Please join us.  We would love to get to know you.

~Renee'
